Local Hero’s Ray, Ken & Digger (dog)
keep up the “selfless” fight for the Bakke community.
Ray Holzey assembled a steamer from an old LP tank
that has been designed to bore through ice.
Ray deserves a pat on the back and a few tanks of gas.
Mother Nature
The Curse…and Blessing!
Frigid temperatures and “Ice Ridges” along a section of I-29 helped to hold back Wild Rice River waters from crossing I-29 and causing major “over-land flooding” for residents in Bakke subdivision.
Stop!
Water goes where it pleases…
Does what it pleases…
Without courtesy or regard for those it affects.
Several long time residents in the area commented on how strange and high Red Rive flood waters were and how they impacted homes and roads in 2009. Closure of several county and state road hampered delivery of vital flood supplies. Many sand, gravel & clay delivery trucks has to deal. Extended travel time and muddy side roads created problems with partial loads freezing inside truck dump boxes.
Okay!…guess we can’t get to town this way!
It’s easy to feel isolated when roads traveled daily…become obstables. Crossing roads inundated with water can be deadly in warm weather. Surviving water that is barely above freezing can be reduced to mere minutes.
Being a North Dakotan takes DEDICATION!
Getting to work can pose challenges!
We LOVE to work…
This is NOT the work we like!
Unsung Heroes!
Welcomed relief for local battle weary flood fighters! 9 busloads of BIG HEARTED students from Perham HS, Perham Minnesota traveled nearly 90 miles to offer “much appreciated” assistance. Filling sand bags is grueling, relentless work.
Thank You!
